Industrial Reverse Osmosis Systems

Steelhead designs and builds industrial reverse osmosis (RO) systems for manufacturers in the beverage and agriculture industries.

Steelhead designs and builds industrial Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems taking into consideration your unique feed water, recovery goals and budget.

Steelhead’s industry leading design, project management, and support, provide manufacturers with highly efficient, continuously operating industrial RO Systems.

Our team of engineers and technicians at Steelhead draw upon over 50 years in the water treatment industry to design systems that maximize recovery rate, reducing your wastewater while keeping your operating costs at a minimum.

Steelhead Industrial RO Systems

A well-designed industrial RO system delivers the highest recovery (permeate) along with the lowest total life cycle cost. At Steelhead, our top priority is to maximize your recovery rate, reducing your wastewater while keeping your operating costs at a minimum.  Our superior designs take into consideration all of these aspects including membrane replacement frequencies, chemical usage if needed, power consumption and services required to achieve your optimum results.

Our industrial RO systems incorporate a sanitary design and are mounted on welded, stainless steel skids with no dead heads.  We use Allen Bradley controls for monitoring and control. Whether you need one or two-pass, basic controls or remote operation, extra low energy or ultra high recovery, one skid or modular, we will design and manufacture the best RO system for your application.

Our standard design includes the following components:

  • Sanitary, stainless skid and membrane housings (ASME Stamped)
  • Stainless steel high pressure feed, permeate and reject piping
  • Clean and flush systems (clean in place)
  • Pre-filter; 1 Micron.
  • Allen Bradley controls
  • Local pressure indication and flow monitoring
  • pH, ORP, and additional TDS Monitoring available
  • Auxiliary tank level monitoring for automatic start/stop

How does Reverse Osmosis Work?

Reverse Osmosis (RO) works by using a pump to overcome osmotic pressure and push water molecules through a semi-permeable membrane which blocks salts and other contaminates. Up to 99% of dissolved solids that are present in the feed water source are carried away by the reject stream. The flow of desalinated water that passes though and is called permeate water and is pure and safe to drink.

Reverse osmosis systems employ cross filtration, where contaminates are carried away by the reject water rather than collected in the filter media. This keeps the membrane surface clean.

What contaminants are removed by the RO membrane?

Reverse osmosis removes dissolved salts, bacteria, and other particles from water.

The membrane filters particles based on size and charge. It will likely reject any contaminate with a molecular weight greater than 200 or with a higher ionic charge.

Because an RO system does not remove gases, the permeate water can have a slightly lower than normal pH level depending on CO2 levels in the feed water as the CO2 is converted to carbonic acid.
